Egnatia Odos Highway is the largest motorway in Greece with a length of 670 km and is part of the European route E90. It begins at Igoumenitsa and ends at the Greek Turkish border at Kipous in Thraki. Egnatia Odos has 177 large bridges of a total length of 42 km, 73 tunnels of maximum length 4,8 km and a total length of over 50 km, 350 under & overpasses and 63 ICs and semi-I/Cs, 43 river crossings and 11 railway crossings.
Today, highway operators are using Security Center with Omnicast system by Genetec, supplied & installed by New Alert, in order to manage over 560 cameras throughout the highway and tunnels. All video is sent back to new surveillance centres, which are located in OMC Ioannina and OMC Anilio. The video management system’s ease of use has been most advantageous for Egnatia Odos. From a surveillance room, seven and nine workstations respectively are running the Omnicast system and video feeds are projected onto expansive video walls. Operators easily navigate through the system, swiftly prompting specific camera views on the video wall during an emergency. The system features redundant servers and duplicate recording capability for maximum availability.
